You might be wondering why certain movies are or aren’t included in the carousel on the Movio EQ home page and in the campaign audience builder.
EQ selects and orders movies based on a two-step process.
Step 1: In-market movies
To begin with, EQ selects a list of what we call ‘in-market’ movies. An in-market movie is one which meets any of the following criteria.
Our in-house teams also identify potential major releases and mark them as blockbusters.
- Mapped with a TMDB regional release date in the past 8 weeks and has transactions
- Mapped with a TMDB regional release date in the next 6 weeks
- Mapped with at least one session in the next 6 weeks
- Mapped with an opening date (the release date in the Head Office Film record) in the past 4 weeks
- Mapped with an opening date (the release date in the Head Office Film record) in the next 6 weeks
- Marked as a blockbuster with a regional release date in the future (ignores mapping)
- Mapped and has showtimes available
If a movie meets any of these criteria, it will also be available for use in dynamic content.
Market status
Every ‘in-market’ movie is assigned a status, defined as follows:
- In theatres: release date in the past and has transactions
- Advance sales: release date in the future and has transactions
- Coming soon: release date in the future
You’ll see these statuses in the audience builder.
If a movie has a release date for your region in TMDB, that will be considered when EQ assigns the market status. If there is no release date for your region, the default TMDB release date will be used.
Step 2: Propensity Algorithm™
Then, by default, movies in the carousel are ordered according to the size of their recommended audience (members who are most likely to be interested in the movie), which is identified by the Propensity Algorithm™.
