Question | Answer |
Why isn’t a movie that is currently playing at my cinema appearing in the carousel? |
For a movie to appear, it needs to be mapped (by Movio) and satisfy our in-market criteria. See 'How Movio EQ selects movies for the carousel' for more information on this. If you're sure the movie satisfies our in-market criteria, reach out to support@movio.co to check the mapping. |
Why is a movie that isn’t playing at my cinema appearing in the carousel? |
This will be because a record for the movie was created in your Vista Head Office application. If a Film record is created in Head Office and the movie satisfies our in-market criteria, Movio will import it and show it in the carousel. |
We stopped screening a movie some time ago. Why is it still appearing in the carousel? |
A movie will still appear in the carousel if the TMDB regional release date was in the past 8 weeks or the release date in your Head Office Film record was in the past 4 weeks. So, even if you’ve stopped showing the movie, it will still appear in the carousel because it falls within the in-market window. |
Why does a movie that has, or is expected to have, a modest performance have a larger-than-expected recommended audience? |
The Propensity Algorithm™ is not an attendance or box-office forecaster, and the audience numbers are not a measure of how well or badly a movie is doing. The algorithm is a recommender system that predicts moviegoer taste and estimates the right audience for a piece of content based on your members' movie-going history. It is presenting you with opportunities for marketing the movie to the right audience. There are a number of factors that the algorithm takes into consideration that may challenge conventional logic and will align with a market view. |
Why does a movie that is, or is expected to be, popular have a smaller-than-expected recommended audience? |
The Propensity Algorithm™ is not an attendance or box-office forecaster, and the audience numbers are not a measure of how well or badly a movie is doing. The algorithm is a recommender system that predicts moviegoer taste and estimates the right audience for a piece of content based on your members' movie-going history. We apply a negative weighting to a member's propensity score if the movie is a re-release or doesn't have showtimes at the member's cinema. This could be one of the reasons. Also, members who have seen the movie will be excluded from the recommended audience, so the recommended audience will reduce over time. There are a number of factors that the algorithm takes into consideration that may challenge conventional logic and will align with a market view. For example, the audience for Joker 2 (Folie à Deux) was expected to be high because of its magnitude and the buzz around it. However, the Propensity Algorithm suggested a lower recommended audience because it was a musical. This is an example of where the algorithm challenged conventional logic. |
Why is a movie appearing without a recommended audience (no number)? |
This could be for a few reasons:
|
Is there a way to increase the size of a movie's recommended audience? |
|
Why does a niche movie (art-house, indie, foreign language) have a large recommended audience? |
This is likely because the movie has many of the same elements (for example, action, romance, and humour) as another movie that had a large recommended audience and performed well. The algorithm is suggesting that a similar audience may enjoy the niche movie. There are a number of factors that the algorithm takes into consideration that may challenge conventional logic and will align with a market view. |
