A contact list is a list of email addresses that aren't associated with Vista Loyalty members. You can upload it to Movio EQ to use with a campaign that isn't member-related. For example, you might want to send an email to people who aren't members but have provided their details to receive updates for a film festival on your website.
There are three methods for uploading contact lists to EQ:
- Manually, as a CSV file
- Via an API integration
- Via an SFTP integration
Uploading a contact list manually
- Under Audience, click Contact lists.
- Click Create contact list.
- Enter a name and description for the list.
- Click Continue.
- Upload the list as a CSV file.
- The first row of data must be the column name.
- Any dates must match the format set by EQ settings.
- When the file is uploaded, only the first 25 lines will be displayed in the preview.
- Alternatively, you can define the columns first, as described below, before uploading the file.
- Select the correct field name for each column of your imported file.
- If you're uploading a contact list for the first time, you'll need click Create custom field and create the fields you need (Email and First name, for example).
- Ensure you have one column set to Email.
- You can prevent a column from being uploaded by selecting Ignore this column.
- Note: Once you've saved this setup (in the next step), you won't be able to change these fields.
- Click Save.
- The Status of your contact list in the table will say "Processing". Refresh the page to update the status.
- If the Status says Error:
- Click the status to see the details.
- Correct the file on your computer.
- Delete the problematic contact list in EQ.
- Recreate the contact list with the corrected file.
Uploading a contact list via API or SFTP
Although API and SFTP are different methods of uploading contact lists to EQ, their setup in EQ is very similar.
- If you're going to use the API, go to Settings > API credentials, and toggle Contact list on.
- If you don't have the right permissions to access this toggle, talk to your manager or IT person.
- Under Audience, click Contact lists.
- Click Create contact list.
- Enter a name and description for the list.
- Click Continue.
- Select the correct field name for each column that you will import.
- If you're uploading a contact list for the first time, you'll need click Create custom field and create the fields you need (Email and First name, for example).
- Ensure you have one column set to Email.
- Ignore the Upload CSV button.
- Note: Once you've uploaded data, you won't be able to change these fields.
- Click Save.
- Click on the newly created contact list in the table.
- Click Upload > API details or SFTP details.
- Copy and share each of the API or SFTP details with your IT or development team so they can complete the integration on your end.
- Important: Take care to keep the authentication details secure. Don't send them by unencrypted email, for example.
- Your developers can find the relevant API docs at movio.redoc.ly/tag/contact-lists.
- When uploading contact lists via the API, ensure you use the same field/column names as you created above.
- Close the details popup and the contact-list form so you can see the Contact lists table again.
- If the file you upload is particularly large, the Status of your contact list in the table may say "Pending" for a while. This will change to "Ready" once the upload is complete.
- If the Status changes to Error, this indicates you've sent the wrong data to EQ compared to the columns you set up. Ask your IT or development team to recheck this.
- If you continue to have issues connecting to the API or using SFTP, contact your Movio representative.
Tools for resolving issues
Aside from Error status details, you can do the following in the Contacts section of a list:
- Download a list for review by clicking the menu (three dots) on the right.
- Review the Upload history tab for the specifics of recent uploads.
Once you've resolved any issues with the contact list, you can use it to create a non-member-related campaign.
